Since either can only hold one soul, how useful they are can be attributed to what they can reasonably replace, and here is where what you're doing with the Souls becomes important. However, a caveat is that both these items can only ever hold a single soul at a time, and therein lies the heart of the argument. Since all of these places can reasonably grant you a Grand Soul opportunity by the end of the experience for your troubles, using Azura's Star effectively becomes the same as using the Black Star, only you're carrying less gems, your weapons are constantly being filled with Souls and you are getting more experience in Enchanting, something that shouldn't be overlooked at all. Making it able to "combine" smaller souls into grand ones would be really nice, but it'd take some scripting to make it work. Is there anything else? It can hold any creature's soul, up to and including those of Grand level. I'd like to know more about this too.
